Abandoned Cart Email

A retail email with 4 products featured, 2 by 2.

Briefly

The customer success team requested a simple abandoned cart email template that could be quickly implemented by product support.

Background

Abandoned cart emails are sent to online retail customers who place an item in their shopping cart but do not complete the purchase. The client wished to implement abandoned cart emails with additional recommendations. As the designer assigned to the client, I worked with an engineer to design an on-brand email for the client.

Process

As I worked regularly with the client, I was familiar with their brand, so was able to quickly adapt their product recommendation email to an abandoned cart email. The approved design was then moved to the engineering team where the data was applied. After implementation, the client success team initiated testing of subject lines, headlines, and alternative layouts.

Tools

Graphic elements for the email were created in PhotoShop. The email was coded using html with some inline css, and then tested in Email on Acid and Litmus. Further testing, to verify abandoned items and recommendations, was conducted via an internal, proprietary tool.
